Vance-Granville Community College (VGCC) is committed to the economic growth and development of the counties in its service area. Economic development is achieved primarily through helping individuals reach their educational potential for success in life. In addition to the opportunities for instruction offered through VGCC's curriculum programs, Vance-Granville offers specific programs tailored to provide assistance to local business and government in promoting the economic and social well-being of the community. VGCC assists companies in meeting their needs for a skilled workforce by tailoring and providing customized training programs.  They do not only serve existing businesses or manufacturing but provide assistance to small businesses, start-ups and entrepreneurs through their Small Business Center.


VGCC offers more than 40 curriculum programs, in which students work toward certificates, diplomas and degrees. Area residents and businesses can also take advantage of a variety of Community & Economic Development opportunities, including the GED and Adult High School Diploma programs. High school students can also get a step ahead by starting their college education early with VGCC courses.

For the convenience of students, classes are scheduled during the day, at night and online. VGCC students generally find small classes that allow for personal attention from experienced instructors. At VGCC, a quality education is convenient, close to home and affordable. Whether you are looking for a high school diploma, job training, an associate degree, or the first two years of a four-year degree, Vance-Granville Community College is; "Your Gateway to Endless Possibilities".

The School System also has an Early College High School offering students a five-year program to complete their high school career while receiving two years of college course work.  


  • Vance County Schools offer a full range of programs for academically gifted and handicapped students.
  • Both the Aycock Elementary School and Early College High School are both North Carolina Schools of Distinction and eight others were designated as North Carolina School of Progress. 
  • There are 47 nationally certified teachers which leads other area school systems.
  • Each student in high school are provided with a computer.  In non-high schools students are provided with the latest in technology with one computer for every two students.
  • Certification in Microsoft programs is available for students at both Northern Vance and Southern Vance high schools.  Each are registered Certiport testing centers.
  • Career and technical students can obtain industry based skills credentials in Computer Engineering Technology (Computer hardware)-A+ Certification, Health Occupations- CAN (Nurse Aide), Automotive Technology-NATEF Certification, Carpentry and Masonry-NCCER Certification, and Food Service- Serve Safe Certification.
  • The Academy of Information Technology provides students at Northern Vance and Southern Vance programs to learn webpage design, computer programming (SAS Certification) and computer application skills.
  • Approximately 70 percent of graduating seniors go on to a college level program.
